
Municipal Training and Research Institute (MTRI), Clifton, Karachi.
The Municipal Training and Research Institute(MTRI), Karachi established in 1986 and became functional in its own beautiful campus situated at the Clifton Beach in 1988-89. The MTRI, Karachi is an attached department of Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development. It imports training and orientation facilities to the elected representatives i.e. Nazims, Naib Nazims, Councillors, Officers and Staff of Local Bodies as well as the representatives of NGOs working in Health, Education and Social sectors. Besides regular trainings the Research in the allied fields of Local Government is also one of the primary functions of the Institute. The MTRI Campus spreaded on 1.44 acre, it consist two double storey blocks, i.e. Academic Block and Hostel Block. The MTRI possess all modern training Aids/Equipments, Transport and other logistic facilities to accommodate 60 participants at a time for its in-house training programmes. The MTRI, Karachi has so far organized 230 Training Courses/Workshops in which some 8150 participants of national and international level have participated.
I. OBJECTIVES OF THE INSTITUTE
a. To provide training and orientation to the elected representatives of local bodies, officers and officials of Local Government.
b. To conduct research in the field of Local Government and allied subjects.
c. To collaborate with Municipalities of regional countries in the field of training and research.
d. Liaison with international institutions of Local Governments.
e. Liaison with regional and international agencies like UNICEF, UNDP, CIRDAP US-AID, SAARC AND AARDO, etc.

MTRI, Karachi provides a comprehensive training forum to the participants from all over the Pakistan including AJ&K, FATA and Northern Areas. It also offers its training facilities to the regional brethren countries. It helps them to exchange views and share their experiences and knowledge on the problems and constraints being faced in the field of Human Resource Development, Management of local affairs and sustainable development. The training also aims to upgrade their skills for making positive contribution to the development process being carried out under the newly launched Local Government System – 2001.
IV. RESEARCH
Research Programmes in the component areas of local government and allied fields is also one of the functions of the Institute in order to diagnose the problems, causes and their solution. One research study to judge the impact of CCBs in the development of Karachi has been carried out during 2006.

TRAINING FEE: A nominal training fee of Rs.1000/- from each participant to be borne by the nominating agencies is charged to meet the incidental expenditure.
STAY: Participants from outside Karachi may stay in the Hotels according to their entitlement and their TA/DA to be paid them by their nominating agencies. However, pick & drop service would be provided free of cost from Saddar (Gulf Hotel as a Focal point) to the Institute.
TA/DA: TA/DA to the participants shall be borne by the nominating Agencies / Departments.
NOTE: This is a tentative Training Calendar of MTRI for 2007. The NOMINATIONS are to be invited for each training programme separately. The nominating agencies are requested to confirm the date of particular training course before nominating their participants.
